Occasionally something happens along life’s way that is pretty exciting and “everyone” needs to know. Therefore, I am trying to make sure everyone knows the success our Grandson, Luke is enjoying in his high school basketball career. So please bear with this excited Grandpa.
A couple weeks ago Luke reached 1,000 points scored in his high school career. He is only the fifth player in the 70 year history of Perry High School to score more than 1,000 points in his career. He has also made the most consecutive free throws in a game (15) and scored the most three pointers (54) in a season. He also leads the team in rebounds, assists, steals and scoring at 17.2 pints a game.

Last week Perry won the State of Ohio District Basketball Championship game against Solon High School. Solon led the by two points with only seconds to play. A Perry player got the ball to Luke for a three point shot. Luke shot but was fouled with three tenths of a second left in the game. He went to the foul line and made all three foul shots to win the game by one point.
Today Luke, his father, Tim (Coach Wolf), Luke’s cousin, Nico, and Nico’s father, Dustin (Coach Martelli) were interviewed today on ESPN radio regarding the Perry win. Nico Martelli is Luke’s cousin as Dustin is Luke’s Uncle. Luke and Nico have played ball together through the years and now into their high school career Luke is a senior this year and Nico is a junior. They have some great memories to treasure for years. This is the audio of the 18 minute interview.
Luke’s success reminds me of another wonderful memory of 29 years ago when our son Tim, Luke’s father, was asked to speak at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event during the 1996 Football Hall of Fame festivities in Canton, Ohio. Tim had just finished his junior year in high school. There were two other speakers, Mel Blount of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Sam Retigliano coach at Liberty University and former coach of the Cleveland Browns. That is pretty good company. Here is a link to my blog of that event. 1996 NFL Hall of Fame Event
While writing this blog Perry is playing Warren Harding High School in the a regional playoff game. Luke has the ball with 3 seconds left on the clock and Perry is down by 2 points. Here is how it ended. UNBELIEVABLE!!! (Click on start button or wave lines to play audio)
