July 11, 2023 we were traveling in the motor home. During a stop Faye opened the refrigerator door and realized it was not at all cool. Everything in the freezer was thawed, warm, and spoiled. It probably stopped working a day or two earlier. We had been at a family gathering eating all of our meals with family. We may have not opened the refrigerator for more than a day. Well, we were stopping overnight in Michigan at Phil and Donna’s house and Phil is a retired A/C guy. He had some thoughts on the situation and shared an experience he had with his RV refrigerator. Turns out he had a pleasant experience getting it repaired at a business in Shipshewana, IN. I had images of a couple thousand dollar repair bill or replacement. I was not looking forward to this experience. Phil encouraged me it might not be that bad.

The business was located 100 mi. from Phil’s house. The next morning I called the business and we set sail for Shipshewana. Vernon was familiar with our model of 24 year old unit and cautioned for certain reasons, which he explained, the unit may not be repairable. He said they have scratch and dent units for about $800. We arrived mid-day. They determined the unit, other than refrigeration, was in very good condition and should be repaired. For just the low low price of $595.50 they replaced the complete refrigeration unit and we were back on the road in three hours. I had a very good experience that day with National RV Refrigeration. I highly recommend them, as Phil did. They are an Amish business in the heart of RV country. They were kind, fair, and efficient.

After we settled the bill he gave me a souvenir fly swatter. I thought that was nice since few business give small gifts anymore. That used to be pretty common. However, I learned they likely saw that as a service, not a gift. During our three hour stay we were parked by their horse pasture with the side of the motor home open at the refrigerator location. As we headed down the road we notice several flies. Thus, the fly swatter. Did I mention they were efficient? Faye eventually swatted them all. The short video below gives a feel of the situation.
